About Flat, Wet & Windy

 

I moved to the Netherlands after being dragged here by my Dutch wife.

Several years later, I’m still trying to work out what’s going on.

Flat, Wet & Windy is about life in the Netherlands through British eyes, Dutch schools, bicycles, weather, holidays, food, language, bureaucracy and all the other things the Dutch regard as completely normal while I stand nearby looking confused.

I started writing these stories because living in another country produces a steady supply of moments that are baffling, ridiculous or unexpectedly brilliant. Usually all three.

This isn’t a guide to the Netherlands. I’m spectacularly unqualified for that.

It’s just what happens when an Englishman lives among the Dutch for long enough to start thinking cycling through horizontal rain is perfectly reasonable.
